A quick thought on rigging.

Rigging 3d Models for animation is harder than actually modeling them- at least it seems that way to me. Starting over on rigging the Whalien. I'm going to make sure to do it right. I could probably get the animations I need with the clumsy rig I have so far, but I want a fancy one that makes it easier. Better to learn the correct habits now.

This is definitely a lot of work, but it's worth it.

An explanation of the screenshots

I thought about leaving the last post as it is; an indication that I'm still making progress. But I should give anyone who's still following the blog more info than that.

Those screenshots were from a test standalone binary; a windows EXE.

So far you can't do more than fly around, and if you go too high or low, the camera won't come with you. I'll probably have it fixed, along with yaw control by the end of the weekend. Now that I've announced it, something will come up to prevent me from working. :D

That's the thing; The Unity engine is now free, which put a fire under me to get back to work on the game, but the delay before that was from stuff that came out of the monitor issue.

Long story short, I've moved to Wisconsin to start a pen and paper game company. This came from becoming friends with Ben Schultz, who sent me that monitor a few posts back. I've been working on two main projects, a beer and pretzels RPG, and a more serious RPG which will serve as the player-side interface for anything I do with the Mystic Space property. The first game is just a fun thing I think will help earn money for the company in a way that's been proven, but the second game, Tribute, is where my heart is. This video game is an extension of that. The video game has the potential to be a bigger deal by far, but it's all part of my creative agenda, which is focused on role playing games in the pen and paper sense.

That doesn't mean that I will work less on the video game stuff; on the contrary, I think I can bring pen and paper RPG values to video games. I have a lot of ideas to that end.

So yes, progress is slow, and it might seem like I'm pulling myself in too many directions, but ultimately I'll get to all of them, probably close to the same time.

As for the video game demo- the focus of the blog... Ben and his friends have a yearly LAN party which is coming up in a few months. My aim is to have something ready for that event. It will be a pure shooter with strategy elements, and not much like the final form I have in mind for the property, but when it's done and tested, I'll post a link or Torrent.

So a few months from now I'll have something for everyone to play.
